Art Portfolio Program
Grier Summer offers an enjoyable three-week residential program open to high school women grades 9-12 who wish to broaden their understanding of the creative process. Directed by Laurie Cave, chair of the Grier School Art Department and expert on college admissions, this program is designed for the serious art student. Emphasis is on the development of subject, light, color, line, form, and texture through drawing, painting, and printmaking.
The purpose of the program is to provide encouragement and necessary instruction as the student develops their work for their AP Studio Art portfolio. However, enrollment in an AP class is not mandatory for the summer course. Discussion on portfolio completion, admissions portfolios, and school requirements will help to channel the student's future search for college-level programs.
Space is limited with the student to teacher ratio of 9 to 1. Girls enrolled in the Art Portfolio Program participate in the regular camp program on Crazy Days and field trips, and are in age appropriate units with other campers. Most days are spent off campus. Materials are included in the cost of the program.
The Art Portfolio Program is only offered the first session of camp. This is an excellent opportunity for girls to devote intensive time to working on their art portfolios and art projects!
One of our French campers, who was in the Art Portfolio Progam, created this sidewalk art "Judy in the Sky with Diamonds" for the Celebrate the Beatles Crazy Day.
